We had our BIG ultrasound last week and everything went really well! Our little Nug is measuring right on schedule. It is so amazing that the ultrasound can show every tiny organ and bone, right down to the chambers of the heart. The ultrasound tech. pointed out all of the organs, and my husband and I sat there nodding and pretending to “see” them as well, but really they are like tiny little black flecks in the little white belly and torso. The heart was easier to see and of course we got to watch it beat (137 times per minute). My two favorite moments were counting the fingers and toes, and watching little Nug stick his tongue out before taking a sip of the amniotic fluid.
Joe was really excited through the whole ultra sound and had a permanent smile glued to his face. As we left the appointment with 15 pictures in hand, I looked over at Joe (he was still smiling), and he said, “The baby doesn’t look anything like me.” I laughed, wondering how a 22-week profile picture of a developing fetus could give him such a clear picture of what our baby looks like, but before I could say anything, he smiled and said, “That’s one lucky baby,” and gave me a big kiss on my cheek
